Terrific piece Nancy! Your beautiful writing here is certainly a joy to behold, too! I know for sure that I’ve gained a whole lot from such, — writing therapy—in the past. It seems that it is really an amazingly effective way to realize change in our lives through this simplest and absolutely easiest, though most probably hardly used practice, of just writing it down, and even if to no certain others, but to the real value our own true selves.

Thanks Verda ~ Yes, I would have included the word closure, as I don’t believe in it either, except that I got carried away on the tangent I was on, and forgot about it!
Appreciate your comment – and yes, I think I am becoming more and more willing to be up front and out there with my blogs. I started blogging back in 2006. It can take a while to not only find your voice, but be willing to go into a full-fledged rant about whatever takes your fancy, and not beat around the bush, as they say

Fabulous bit of writing. I would include the word closure too. I despise them both. Our experiences make up the fabric of who we are. We don’t just delete them like typos in a manuscript. Your work is becoming increasingly more candid and I am loving it.

That’s wonderful news Verda! My only ‘agenda’ if it can be called that – is to acknowledge and celebrate those daring souls who have the courage to tell their truth and are aware of the clearing process that results.

The way it was explained to me was that a memoir deals with just one aspect of one’s life, or a part of it, whereas an autobiography deals with the entire life. It’s like “memoir” sounds like “remember” as in, I remember…. And autobiography is a biography — written by oneself.

If I were you I would call Ancestral Airs — or subtitle it, “Based on a True Experience” or, “With Autobiographical Content” — and then elaborate on the meaning of that in an introduction or Preface (for instance when you make it available as an e-book or come out with an updated edition).

I have a question for you. Please explain the difference between a memoir and an autobiography. Ancestral Airs has an enormous amount of “autobiological” material in it but it is simply one layer of a multi-layered work. I never quite knew what to call it.
